As I was leaving school this afternoon, I noticed how bright the sky was and how incredibly beautiful and delicate the clouds were. We don’t typically have skies like this in the valley. It reminded me of Paris.

Of course, the clouds here were a little less majestic but still managed to put a smile on my face.

I drove home listening to a breezy combination of french music {circa 1950′s} and Mozart. I have to say that it might have been the first time {since I moved from Connecticut} that I smiled all the way home at the sight of my surroundings. I constantly drove and walked around Connecticut and New York with a perma grin because I was seeing this:

It’s pretty difficult living in such a beautiful place then coming “home” to what feels like Dante’s Inferno. Today was a lovely reprieve that renewed my faith in Arizona ever so slightly.

Superbowl time. I’ll admit, I didn’t even know who was playing this year. Merek didn’t either though so I don’t feel too bad. We made a quick run to DQ for Orange Julius’s, a blizzard, and a 6 pack of butterscotch Dilly bars {for Merek}, then a trip to Fresh & Easy so I could have my popcorn that I’d been craving for over 18 hours.

Our Superbowl party was insane. It was just the two of us.. and Rufus. That’s our kind of party.

My favorite commercial of the night was the Google ad.

So clever and sweet. I loved it.

Another win was of course the Doritos commercials and this one.

Merek and I had a good laugh.

It was such a beautiful day that I couldn’t possibly sit home and be miserable. We went out to the SanTan outdoor shopping center and ate lunch at Paradise Bakery. We sat outside and people watched. We’re creeps.

2 boxes of cookies {to go} later, we went back home and curled up on the couch. I still wasn’t feeling well so I laid on Merek’s lap as he read to me. Some of the ghostly stories weren’t very impressive considering what we’re typically used to but I closed my eyes and listened to the rhythmic tone of his voice and was softly lulled to sleep.

Woke up to Merek saying he needed to head to Home Depot but I was much too comfortable to leave so I stayed behind and watched “Glee”. Yes, I am a Gleek. The show is silly, terrible acting but oh so addicting. When Merek got home, I made him watch it with me. He wasn’t so impressed. Or so he says.

Getting pampered feels wonderful if you can just say YES when someone asks if you are in need. I am not one of those people. I love doing things for others but somehow feel a bit of an inconvenience if I’m ill. Why can’t I just enjoy being taken care of?? Still feeling wretched and doubt I will see the inside of a church tomorrow. Hopefully this goes away soon.

Had the privilege of meeting up with my best friend from elementary school and junior high this morning. We met at the adorable bistro, The Coffee Shop in gilbert. We met around 10:30 am and chatted till 1:30! It was so fun sharing stories about our boy chasing days in kindergarten, peeing our pants in class, our old clubhouse and friends we had grown up with. I laughed so hard I nearly repeated the story of me peeing my pants on the playground in 4th grade. I definitely needed a visit like that to cheer me up. I picked up a red velvet cupcake for Merek while I was there then went home to do laundry, finish my postcard wall and sing loudly to music. {nerd}

I picked up Rufus and brought him back over to my place. He was beyond hyper but calmed down once I set up a seat in front of the window for him. I’m on the 3rd floor of our townhouse so he got a whole new view of the world. It was cute.

Tonight is the annual Pajama Bunco party for the Davis and Shumway clan. Merek’s father kept his law firm open so we could use the large break room as our playing field. So much food, fun, and laughter. It was intense! I was hesitant at first because I hadn’t played bunco since I was 12 but was soon screaming along with everyone else. At the end, we all got gift cards to various places and Jill {Merek’s mother} and I had a tie for best Pajamas. I wore a two piece black silk pajama set from VS {it sounds scandalous but I’m pretty sure it’s what women over 40 wear} and Jill had a fun printed silk dress. I definitely voted for her and she won . It was such a good night.

Ending note: I’m so grateful for my incredible boyfriend. Do you ever have “off” days or an “off” week with your significant other? I do not enjoy them one bit. Thankfully communication heals everything. I love him. {smile}

I did, however, get to finally see my mother who has been gone for 10 days. She was quite surprised to meet the new puppy and instantly fell in love. {♥}

Today in class we were speaking about the allegorical meaning behind certain paintings. My teacher then asked the 7th grade question to a university class level of 400 “what is an allegory?”. No one ever likes to answer simple questions in college. It comes from a belief that the professor is trying to trick you and then will immediately put you on the spot, strip your pride bare and humiliate you in front of the entire class. {Case in point: In my photography lecture, my professor asked the class “what is photography?” One student said “painting with light.” Another said “it was a word invented by the greeks”. Both true, but kind of strange answers. Then one student who was put on the spot said “I don’t know”. Really?? You don’t know what photography is?? No one said “it’s an art form” or “a way of expressing yourself”. It’s these simple questions that seem to melt the brains of us poor college students. I have no idea. <end tangant>} So back to the question, “what is an allegory”? Some aspiring comedian shouted “He invented the internet!”. No one got the joke. hence, silence… crickets.. It was awkward. It even took me about 20 seconds to grasp it. Allegory. Al Gore… Ha. Ha. <insert sarcasm here>.

I got to my meter within one minute of expiration. There was even some prick meter nazi there waiting for it to expire. Sucker. I win.

Missed my grandpa so much today. Haven’t been in the best mood. My ipod kept playing songs by Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole. Those songs fill me with nostalgia and happy memories. It was good medicine. And of course my favorite song of all time: Hey Jude. “Take a sad song and make it better”. The Beatles will always make life’s rough patches bearable for me. Their songs always know just what to say to me. Even when I was 7 years old I turned to them. Ahhh.. comme j’adore les Beatles.

I went back to fencing tonight. It has been almost a year since I’ve fenced and I have missed it terribly. I’m also terribly rusty. I won my first bout but unfortunately lost the other 2. Oh well. Practice, practice, practice. It was so good seeing everyone again. Found out that 2 of my good friends had started dating and are now moving in together. I asked if they fenced to settle arguements, they smirked.

Ended the night by wailing to Merek how stressed I was about my boss that wouldn’t pay me the money he owed me. In turn, I received a stress headache and curled up in ball in my closet {it’s the only quiet place in the whole house and my closet is huuuuge so it’s basically like a fort} and fell asleep. So unbelievably ready for the weekend.

I spent the evening hanging up my collection of postcards and cleaning like a mad woman. I was in project mode tonight. Watched Amelie, Sabrina, and now Sound of music {again} to keep me company during my burst of “decorating”.

I love this little collection. I date and tag every one of them so I can remember the location and adventure where I purchased them. They are mainly from New York, Paris and Connecticut but I love the variety in the rest. If you’re ever wondering what to get me, one of these makes the perfect gift. {smile}.

My mother is coming home tomorrow. Oh how I’ve missed her. Been feeling a little blue these past couple days. Her arrival might help snap me out of it. I’m coming to the realization that I’ve been pretty spoiled when it comes to traveling and adventures. I used to be on a plane once a month. Now, I rarely go anywhere. I don’t ever mind it because I have all I need right here but I do think that my melancholy mood is just in need of a trip considering my last one was in October. Eek. I should work for the airlines.

Tomorrow is busy. I don’t even know if I’ll get to see my guy :/. It sounds lame but I’ve turned into one of those girls who delights in seeing their significant other at least once a day. I used to make fun of them… until I fell in love. Geeeeeez.

On another note. I am dying of hunger. Really though. If you don’t see a blog tomorrow, might want to call in an emergency team. I had 2 pieces of Jerky and 1/2 of an energy drink. I should not be this hungry. My body is all sorts of crazy lately.

I think I should attempt to sleep now. Oh and did I mention I’m wearing my retainer? For the first time in 9 months. Hurts like hell. I also look 12 years old. Win.
